“Our Indigenous Melbourne” 
Hear Dr Andrew Peters, a descendant of the Yarra Yarra, Yorta Yorta, Ngurai willum and Taungerong clans, take to the Red Chair to speak about “Our Indigenous Melbourne”. Andrew will share his story, and discuss the significance storytelling has in preserving Indigenous culture and knowledge today.

Dr Peters, a descendant of the Yarra Yarra, Yorta Yorta, Ngurai willum and Taungerong clans, is a lifelong Richmond supporter and long-term employee at Swinburne University, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Indigenous Studies. 

Andrew led the development of Swinburne University’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and is an advisor on the Swinburne University Human Research Ethics Committee. Recent research projects include an evaluation of a study support program for Indigenous inmates at Port Phillip Prison; an enquiry into private rental for Indigenous people and the role and effect of Indigenous culture and knowledge; and an evaluation of cultural identity and continuity of young Indigenous leaders in the REAL Program of the Korin Gamadji Institute at the Richmond Football Club.   

Andrew was appointed to the Board of the Richmond Football Club in February, 2023, and is also on the board of Oonah Health and Community Services Aboriginal Corporation in Healesville, and Chair of the Victorian Aboriginal Remembrance Committee as well as other community roles.
