EXHIBITION: Aimee Timpson - Female is the New 'F' Word

The New F word FEMALE

Can you feel it? In the wind? In the air?
Times are changing.

Women are rising.

And yet women are dying and it is not their fault.

It’s okay for girls to get angry. They are not crazy or insane for showing human emotions.

And it really is okay for boys to cry.

I have a daughter and I pray that she will be equal.
I have a son and I pray he too will be equal.

I have a daughter and I pray her work will be as valued as my son’s will be.

I pray that they will both be able to walk down the street and not need to hold keys and mobile phones, and walk confidently along in the night and not fear that they need to look over their shoulder.

This garden, this art, is growing and rising.

The flowers are blossoming as women are starting to change the world slowly. Women are changing the world with kindness and love.

The bees are pollinating the garden, just as I am pollinating minds with the new ‘F’ word.

Butterflies fly free, and so too are women freeing themselves and flying.

The purpose of this art is to encourage the start of change and acceptance of the power of a women.

Marina Abramovic quotes Yves Klein “my paintings are the ashes of my art”.
My art work is the ashes of my anger, my anxiety, my love and my power.

I use the background as relief, as therapy. I take walks in the garden collecting things that I can stamp or place in the background, truly inspired by the seasons of the Macedon Ranges. Then I finger paint, spray and create to make an indelible mark of power on old recycled cardboard.

I photograph the piece and enhance it on photoshop to keep its vibrancy, and this also allows me to feel connected to the artwork when I start the digital process as I then work on my iPad.
The symbols of flowers and other garden elements were researched to reflect the emotional flow I was experiencing at the time.

By using the iPad to draw, I have been able to control and hide layers, just like hiding layers of myself. Adding photos of nature feels like it grounds my art and my emotions.

My mind races with words. These words appear to me at the strangest times. Some hide, and some need to be shouted.

This little ‘Sheila’ is screaming out for change!
