Join The Muses’ Delight on a musical journey from the British Isles of the 18th Century to the raucous Australian bush. Two themes arise: dance, and the transformation of British folk and classical music as it finds a home in the sun, bush and sea of Australia. Through this playfully constructed program we visit Handel and Purcell in the English Court, then head downtown to the reels and jigs of the tavern. Ross Edwards’ Ecstatic Dances paint a vivid image of the unique birdsong of Australia before whirling into the bush dances that filled the nights of Katie Kurtz, Australian fiddler and great-grandmother of The Muses’ Delight’s very own cellist, Lucy Price!
Meredith Beardmore, flute
Katie Yap, violin/viola
Lucy Price, cello
