Montsalvat is proud to present the Rick Amor Self Portrait Prize 2019 sponsored by prominent Australian artist, Rick Amor.
Opened on Thursday 14th of November, the prize of $20,000 (non-acquisitive) was awarded by judge Prudence Flint to Michelle Zuccolo’s self-portrait titled Augury.
Prudence noted of the work “Michelle Zuccolo’s Augury has a striking delicacy in regard to its narrative, rendering of ‘self’ and it’s painterly space. The profile offers the viewer room to swing and move and think about the implied tensions and intensities throughout the work”.
Special mentions were also noted to Daniel Vukovljak’s work for its candid unrelenting stare and mesmerising completeness in painting application and Liz Gridley, Tom Parsons and Byron Copland.
Montsalvat extends a huge congratulations to all of the finalists involved in the exhibition and thanks to Australian lawyer, author, human rights and refugee advocate Julian Burnside QC AO for opening the exhibition and announcing the winner and Prudence Flint for judging the award.
This year a record number of over 250 works were submitted from across Australia and overseas. From these entries, the following 35 finalists were selected.
