Longing & Belonging draws from different elements of nature, the cosmos, imagination and play, where accessibility is only limited to how far one's imagination can longingly stretch.
Each work addresses the question of what if home is actually an ageless feeling or ritual, a pull of belonging that transcends all time and space, where something as simple as being engrossed in a good book, or exploring rock pools, or simply bathing in a mountain's swimming hole, is what makes us embody a sense of nostalgic kinship?
This exhibition is to quieten, to contemplate, to notice enough to find a new piece within a piece you may have already looked at repeatedly, only, each time there's more treasure or something different - depending on where you're at that day. - Rochelle van der Merwe
