Montsalvat is presenting two jazz music concerts on Sunday 22nd May 2022! Help us build back from Covid impacts; your support is vital for Montsalvat to keep inspiring new generations of artists, and new audiences.
Join us in the Barn Gallery for two amazing live performances starting with Jackie Bornstein at 5pm. Jackie Bornstein is one of Melbourne’s most captivating jazz, chanson and bossa nova singers, known for her rich tones and ability to get to the heart of a tune. Performing alongside Jackie will be the world-class jazz pianist Mark Fitzgibbon. Mark's swinging touch and virtuosity is the reason why he’s one of the most in demand players in Australia. Enjoy a light champagne supper and then hear piano maestro Joe Chindamo from 7pm! Joe Chindamo is musical polyglot in the tradition of Bernstein and Previn. He is routinely described as one of the best jazz pianists in the world, though his art transcends jazz, having composed concertos, chamber music and film music

Jackie Bornstein
Growing up in a musical family with a musical diet heavily laden with big band swing, bebop and modern jazz, Jackie developed an ear for jazz from childhood. Trained classically as a child (in voice, piano and clarinet), she continued her jazz leaning becoming strongly influenced by modern vocal greats including Kurt Elling, Dianne Reeves and Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Jackie has become a regular at Melbourne’s top jazz venues and festivals with performances at Lido Jazz Room, Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, Bird’s Basement, Paris Cat Jazz Club, Kew Court House, The Jazzlab, the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Salon, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and more. She has performed with a selection of Australia’s finest jazz and improvising musicians including James Sherlock, Carl Mackey, Philip Rex, Ben Hanlon, Nathan Slater, Andrea Keller, Stephen Magnusson, Mark Fitzgibbon, Angela Davis, Tamara Murphy, Sam Keevers and more.
“An enchanting vocalist and captivating storyteller” – Australian Jazz
Joe Chindamo is musical polyglot in the tradition of Bernstein and Previn. He is routinely described as one of the best jazz pianists in the world, though his art transcends jazz, having composed concertos, chamber music and film music. He possesses an uncanny ability to personalise anything which enters his orbit, as is evident in his work with violinist and duo partner Zoe Black.
“He has more facility on the piano than you could ever wish for, his energy is boundless, he is forever inventive and never settles for the obvious (unless it’s the best). Never ask Joe for an idea unless you are prepared for an avalanche of creativity, every time... The reason Joe Chindamo arrests you when you hear him is his sheer love of what he does, a love that sparkles from every note.” - James Morrison, jazz maestro
