Disprolibrium: Tipping the balance of an ecosystem, initiated by the overriding effects of a single species.
‘This exhibition of paintings weaves a narrative about the human species and the effects of our proliferation. As an artist, I am interested in what makes our species so successful and what that success means for the balance of nature. I am fascinated by human ingenuity and creativity, but also our lack of foresight and our destructive nature. My paintings create an opportunity to spark conversations around the human condition, population growth, behavioural norms, and environmental discord.’
– W. Howard Brandenburg
Born and raised in the high deserts of northern New Mexico, USA, W. Howard Brandenburg’s life has had art-making at its core. He learned art and aesthetic from his mother and grandmother, both artists, and further studied art (and science) at University. Brandenburg has always identified the visual image as a profound form of communication and an invaluable way to perceive the world.
