Coinciding with International Women’s Day 2024, whose theme is “Inspire Inclusion”, Savanna’s exhibited works showcase a conceptualisation of several women over the past 2000 years in the fields of art, medicine, science, music, discovery, exploration, mathematics, politics who have struggled against the patriarchy of their times.
Each piece celebrates, in jewellery, the achievements of several women over the centuries who’ve fought against the prevailing patriarchy of their times.
ARITIST BIO
SAVANNA STORM was born in Prague, had a barefoot childhood in Africa and became a journalist in London before emigrating to Australia. She travelled the world as an international photojournalist, covering everything from female circumcision to the seismic effect of submarines on whales, until 9/11 stopped all travels in their tracks.
She had developed a love of collecting ethnic jewellery which in turn inspired a new purpose - to rescue broken dowry pieces from being melted down into modern pieces without stories, and instead repurposing them into culturally and historically significant adornments with plenty of tales to tell.
Savanna is proudly self-taught, crafting jewellery compositions using methods that do not threaten the integrity of the original pieces, but instead conserve and contribute to their inherent narrative.
