Sarah Parker is a Melbourne-based ceramic jeweller and sculptor with over 20 years of experience in ceramics. Her sculptural work is held in international and national collections, including the Groot Foundation in Chicago and the Taiwan Ceramic Museum. She has received an Australia Council Grant and holds a master’s in cultural heritage. Inspired by museum collections and nature, her current work reflects these influences.
She creates bespoke jewellery from high-fired porcelain, finished with opulent copper, gold, or silver lustres. Her latest pieces explore abstract aspects of natural history museum collections through colour, texture, form, pattern, and surfaces, drawing inspiration from mineralogy, corals, fossils, and microbes. Her jewellery designs are eye-catching and beautiful to wear, featuring intricate patterns and vibrant colours.
‘The exhibition celebrates the ability to transcend traditional boundaries, showcasing the symbiotic relationship between jewellery and sculpture.
This body of work focuses on the transformative journey from select ceramic jewellery pieces to larger-scale sculptural ceramic works.
The exhibition will feature a series of works that compare the original jewellery designs with their corresponding large-scale versions. It will demonstrate the evolution of my designs and the unique process of translating delicate jewellery pieces into impactful larger-scale artworks. By showcasing both the original jewellery designs and the larger versions, visitors will gain insight into my creative process and witness the transformation from the intimate to the grand.
I aim to provide visitors with a tangible understanding of the transformation from miniature to monumental, highlighting the meticulous attention to detail required in each step. This will offer visitors a direct comparison and exploration of the transformative process.’ - Sarah Parker
