Gian is a prolific and unique vocalist and composer based in Melbourne. She has released eight albums of her original music and composed 7 large scale acappella works for her vocal ensemble, Invenio. She has featured on many projects and recordings for acclaimed Australian and American artists. Her 2022 album ‘Grey is Ground’ was awarded Jazz album of the year at the Australian Art Music Awards and won a Green Room Award in composition for theatre production Song For a Weary Throat by Rawcus Theatre and Invenio Singers.
Gian is also a long-time passionate educator on faculty in Voice, Jazz, and Improvisation at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
The Gian Slater Trio comprises her brother, remarkable guitarist and vocalist, Nathan Slater and partner, incomparable bassist, Christopher Hale. Their album, ‘Still Still’ released in 2014, captures their collective influences and experiences through unique original repertoire.
