GROUNDS EXHIBITION: Liz Walker - Listen Up

John Muir (1830 – 1914), one of Americas most famous conservationists said;

Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world.

Listen up, an installation of suspended recycled metal fragments inspired by the variety of peeling eucalyptus bark I admired while undertaking a residency at Montsalvat in 2015, represents a swag of amulets celebrating our precious natural environment.

In such a beautiful place where ghosts of the artist community who brought it to life can still be felt by those who live, work or visit here, the importance of valuing and preserving our environment seems obvious. Yet to some our planet is a playground and infinite provider and source of life regardless of how we trash it or ignore the warnings.

Wikipedia describes an amulet as an object whose most important characteristic is the power described to it to protect its owner from danger or harm. Walk through these two pines and contemplate an existence without natural green spaces and all they entail.  Make a decision to create change and encourage others to do so. Take pride in our planet- it’s beautiful, it’s rich and it’s more than we could ever have dreamed of. Our planet needs protection; it needs protection from us.
