Florentina Munteanu is an artist who is passionate about painting and has a strong interest in observation at its best in a state of formation, “it can never be brought to a complete close.” Florentina has exhibited in various group exhibitions and Nature in it's lair is the artist’s first solo painting exhibition, which features approximately 13 artworks from her collection. Florentina is a recipient of the Avigdor Arikha Residential part scholarship in Italy and has held a Residency in the Gatehouse Studio at Montsalvat in 2017 as well as being a finalist in the Rick Amor self-portrait prize of the same year.
Nature in it's lair captures Florentina’s recent personal painting journey since her travel to Italy to study with Israel Hershberg in Civita Castellana. Her subject is constantly explored largely through still life, the figure and the landscape.
Still Life offers the perfect painting problem, Florentina says, allowing for a number of paining questions that can only be explored through paint and Painting is the most honest art form, you simply can’t fake the outcome it keeps you on your toes. Most of the objects are fragments from her surroundings, her garden, her home and they are held as moments in time contemplating upon her own intimate world.
This exhibition presents the viewer with a collection of still life works and some landscapes stemming from her Italy trip.
