CONCERT SERIES: Trio Anima Mundi - Piano Trio Archaeology

We welcome back Trio Anima Mundi to Montsalvat this year. Since their first series appearance at Montsalvat in 2019 they have presented an eclectic range of music for piano trio. In 2022 they continue their Piano Trio Archaeology with performances of music by Miram Hyde, Germaine Tailleferre, and Carl Gottlieb Reissiger (as part of their ongoing world-first The Reissiger Project - presenting all 28 of his piano trios), interspersed with trios by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and the world premiere of Kenji Fujimura's second piano trio.

A Feminine Touch

Concert 3 delves deeply into the Romantic sound world of three women . TAM revisits Australian Miriam Hyde's Fantasy Trio, featured on their international award-winning disc. Also featured is the melodious Trio of Les Six member Germaine Tailleferre, and the mighty trio of Clara Schumann.

Miriam Hyde Fantasy Trio in B minor

Germaine Tailleferre Piano Trio

Clara Schumann Piano Trio in G minor, Op.17

Concert 1 - Saturday 2nd April 2.30pm - Barn Gallery

The Salieri Connection

Concert 1 presents the first published works of two composers whose careers were linked by a common figure - Antonio Salieri. Both Reissiger and Beethoven spent time under the tutelage of Salieri, a formidable figure in the Viennese music scene of  the time. We look at their earliest forays into the piano trio genre.

Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Trio Op.1, No.3 in C minor

Carl Gottlieb Reissiger Piano Trio No.1 in D minor, Op.25

Poems of Passion

Concert 2 turns up the passion with the evocative and emotive early works of Sergei Rachmaninoff - juxtaposed with the ebullient Romanticism of Reissiger's 2nd trio. The concert also includes a new work by Kenji Fujimura, the commission generously supported by the City of Melbourne.

Sergei Rachmaninoff Trio élégiaque No.1 in G minor

Kenji Fujimura Piano Trio No.2 (world premiere)*

Carl Gottlieb Reissiger Piano Trio No.2 in B-flat Major, Op.33
