Unpredictable | Exploring Surface - Maryke Henderson
WHEN | 26 February to 30 March
WHERE | Residents Gallery
In this exhibition Maryke Henderson explores the surface created by soda vapour glaze and the flame path of the fire. Being a great lover of the outdoors the colours and forms naturally gave her a canvas and pallet to work
with. From the background of making domestic work Henderson often reworks the forms to give a sculptural element.
Henderson first touched clay 50 years ago after being asked to work with children. A day with a local potter lit the fire and lead to a lifetime of learning to master the material. Doing every available course and workshop
available in country NSW she eventually enrolled in the Distance Diploma at ANU. This became a pathway to the degree program where she had the opportunity to explore firing techniques, developing clay bodies and be
exposed to the teachings of highly qualified staff and visiting artists. She now teaches at Canberra Potters and continues to develop her own practice.
