Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Art 2025

The Nillumbik Prize for Contemporary Art exhibition includes 34 incredible artists who have been shortlisted from a record 368 entries. This biennial, acquisitive prize is open to artists across Australia, working in any medium and offers a prize pool of $31,000.

This year's finalists are artists Georgia Banks, Pia Coetsee, Emma Coulter, Lana de Jager, Lada Dedić, Chelle Destefano, Makeda Duong, Megan Evans, Mark Forbes, Phillip George, Tim Gregory, Petrina Hicks, Nicholas Hubicki, Virginia Keft, Janetta Kerr-Grant, Jenna Lee, Warren Lee, Arrayah Loynd, Donna Marcus, Kori Miles, Ezz Monem, Marisa Mu, Jamie Mumford, Serena Pinday, Kenny Pittock, Susan Reddrop, Britt Salt, Amy Schleif, Jacqui Shelton, Sia Smyth, Katie Stackhouse, Meagan Streader, Isabel Trufas, Jen Valender.

Shortlisted artists are selected by an independent panel including judges Matt Cox, Art Gallery NSW; Gail Harradine, Koorie Heritage Trust and Patrice Sharkey, Tarrawarra Museum of Art. Shortlisting Judge Patrice Sharkey said they were struck by the tremendous range of practices and depth of ideas submitted to NPCA2025.

“The final shortlist is a rigorous representation of contemporary art being made across Australia today. It has also been uplifting to note the overwhelming desire by artists to address current societal issues concerning human rights, the environment and technology,” she said. The winners of the $20,000 Open and $10,000 Local prizes will be announced at the exhibition’s opening night on Thursday 3 April. Finalist judges are Dr Vincent Alessi, Linden New Art; Dr Kiron Robinson, VCA and Sophie Travers, Australian Tapestry Workshop.

The free exhibition will be presented at Montsalvat across three Gallery spaces from Friday 4 April - Sunday 25 May.
